Leslie Charles is a Bangalore based bass player, guitarist, composer, producer, synthesist, recording and mixing engineer, sound designer and music educator whose work spans a wide spectrum of musical and sonic practices. Known for his versatility, he performs, writes, and produces across both popular and experimental genres, bringing a deeply process driven and detail oriented approach to every project.
Over the years, he has worked with a diverse range of artists and bands including Blushing Satellite, Alexis D'Souza, Parvaaz, Gauley Bhai, The Earth Below, Bevar Sea, Amyt Datta Electric Power Quartet and Mahesh Raghunandan. From 2012 to 2025, he was the bass player for the pioneering Indian indie band Thermal And A Quarter, touring extensively across India and internationally.
He is one of the most sought after independent producers, known for his highly detailed process oriented approach that places strong emphasis on performance, authenticity, clarity and relying on minimal post production.
Leslie's work in the studio has earned him critical recognition, including the Indian Recording Arts Academy award for Best Rock and Blues Producer in 2022 and Best Recording Engineer in 2025, both in the non film independent category. He was also awarded Best Bass Player at the Indies in 2021.
Beyond the stage and studio, he has contributed to interactive media, composing music and designing sound for the game Pokémon Tower Battle, and continues to collaborate with independent game developers.
As a solo artist, he has released four beat tapes under his own name, alongside three ambient drone albums as part of his project Day Care for Adults. His collaborative and experimental work includes being a member of Hoodoo, which released a full length live album in 2021, as well as the Leslie Charles Trio, which opened for John McLaughlin in 2015. He is also part of the experimental projects Fragment of Light and Megadrone, with whom he has released three full length live albums.
Currently, Leslie serves as the in-house producer, recording, mixing, and mastering engineer at Stained Class Productions in Bangalore.
His deep technical knowledge and uncompromising commitment to craft have made him a highly sought after educator, mentoring both emerging and established musicians who seek a deeper understanding of sound, music and audio production process.
