The Craft of Sound and Music - Workshop Series
Music has given me some of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Not just because of the albums I've made, the artists I've worked with, or the places it's taken me, but because it taught me how much beauty there is in learning, listening, and paying attention.
We live in a strange time of abundant information, endless tutorials, opinions, shortcuts, and "secrets" available online. Yet many people still feel overwhelmed, intimidated by technical concepts, or unsure how all the pieces fit together. This workshop series is an attempt to slow down and explore the fundamentals. Once a month, we'll gather to discuss topics ranging from sound and psychoacoustics to music theory, recording, synthesis, mixing, mastering, and instrumental technique from scratch. Through lectures, demonstrations, listening sessions, and discussions, we'll examine not only what things are, but why they work, how they evolved, and how they connect to the broader craft of making music.
My goal is not to tell you what to create. Creativity is personal. Instead, I want to help you develop a deeper understanding of the tools, principles, and practices that make meaningful creative work possible. These workshops are designed for people who are curious, who are not afraid to admit what they don't know, and who want to build competency rather than collect shortcuts.
These workshops are also an attempt to create the kind of space I wish I'd had when I was starting out. A place where we can spend a few hours exploring music together, listening carefully, thinking deeply, and appreciating the craft behind the art. In an age of endless content, where both music and education are increasingly treated as commodities and services rather than shared experiences, I think there's real value in slowing down and gathering in the same room.
More than anything, I hope these workshops help people reconnect with the wonder that made them fall in love with music in the first place. Because, in the end, we're all just trying to understand something we love, and none of us should have to pursue good craft alone.
